1 Hour Full Body Workout

Okay, I had a friend ask me to help her with some at-home workouts, so I am posting workout videos using various equipment that you can do at home. If you would also like to follow along with us – you certainly can. I know these days everyone is trying to sell ya something, but this is free. Some videos will require light weights or bands, but you can just about do everything without weights as well (or grab some water bottles or cans of soup.) Here is my first strength training workout below. I am calling this “Workout 1,” and it is broken up into sections via body parts.

The only video you really need light weights (3-5lbs) for is the arm video, you can get through the other two without them. So there is the arm workout, legs part 1, legs part 2, and abs. (YouTube made me break down the leg video because it was too long). The arm and ab videos are about 15 minutes each, and I believe the leg videos added together were about 25 minutes total. Let me know what else you would like to see me do, and I would be glad to share. I plan on doing instructional videos on resistance bands, the stability ball, and Valslides (or you could improvise this one with paper/plastic plates). See you soon!

Better sore than sorry!

6 Sneaky Work-out Moves for Workers

Do you use work as an excuse to skip working out?  Do you find that articles on working out at work don’t help you because the moves would draw unwanted attention from your co-workers?  I am here to show you some sneaky workout moves that you can do throughout your workday.  These six moves are for days that you may not have time to go to the gym…

1.  As you are waiting on your conditioner to set in do thirty wall pushups while you’re in the shower…

2.  As you are drying your hair do at least thirty squats…

3.  As you are driving to work recline the back of your chair back (past 90 degrees) and contract your abs to sit upright (you can also do this at your desk)

4.  When standing around at work- work your calf muscles by getting on your toes (this is easy to mask in heels)…

5.  Take the stairs whenever possible, and skip every other step to work glutes, quads and hamstrings…

6.  When sitting at your desk raise feet slightly off the ground and hold for one minute-three times.  This works abs and quads…you can also do one leg at a time… (lady in photo raises legs more than slightly)

Remember no excuses!  Happy New Year and New YOU!

Slide Into Shape!

This is one of my all-time favorite picks.  If you know me at all, then you are aware that I am a huge Jennifer Garner fan.  If you have ever seen “Alias”, “Elektra” or “Daredevil” then you know that JG is known to rock some serious muscles, while also being long and lean.  If you have ever wondered what her secret is… I am here to tell you that it is none other than celebrity trainer Valerie Waters.  Valerie has created “Valslides” which are the best and most convenient piece of workout equipment you will find.  These are great if you travel frequently, or if you don’t want a lot of bulky equipment in your home.  Valslides are slides that you literally slide your feet on in many different ways to build muscle, tone up and raise your heart rate.  The best way to understand how they work is to watch the videos below. If you go to Valslide and get the “essentials kit” you will find everything you need.  The essentials kit includes the Valslides, instructional dvd, instructional chart and booties for use on hardwood floor (since they were designed for carpet).  This would be a great gift for someone wanting to get into shape or for yourself (after you get all that Christmas money to spend).  I have added two videos below showing you a few of the moves featured on “Access Hollywood” and “Ellen”.  Also, there is a big sale going on this weekend over at Valslide so slide on over and get yours today!  They are a great way to get a total body workout and they are very affordable!

Training With The Stars! – Mandy Ingber Interview

Today I scored the very first Twitter interview with Mandy Ingber, who just happens to be the Yoga Instructor to none other than the person whose body we would all love to have……the gorgeous and talented Jennifer Aniston. She also trains actresses such as the always fashionable Kate Beckinsale and the adorable Emily Blunt to name a few. The first quote on Mandy’s website http://www.MandyIngber.com is one that I think is very true and very beautiful “Having the body you want begins with loving the body you have.” I can see why these A list actresses want Mandy to help them achieve their goals, she clearly has her head on her shoulders and has the right idea about positive body image. Mandy’s yoga and spinning classes are beyond very popular in Los Angeles, where she has been teaching for over 16 years. So needless to say I tried to ask the questions we all want to know from such an expert. My first question was to please tell me her favorite form of cardio workout to which Mandy answered “spinning is my all time cardio fave. I have been teaching since 1996, and was voted Best of Los Angeles. Love the catharsis.” She is right spinning is something I enjoy doing as well and if you have an instructor that picks great music it can make you forget how many calories you are actually torching because you are in Jam-Mode. She also went on to say how your diet is very personal and in addition to working out she has a long history with finding healthy eating habits and although she is no longer a Macrobiotic Vegan she was raised as one. My next question was what we all really want to know… what are those go-to Yoga Poses that keep Jennifer Aniston looking so great? Mandy replied “we do balances like half moon, tree, warrior 3, sun salutes, and yogalosophy moves to incorporate squats which I pair with chair.” (Yogolospophy is Mandy’s own creation, to buy Mandy’s Yogalosophy dvd you can go to her website http://www.MandyIngber.com or follow her on twitter @MsMandyIngber). Next I asked if Mandy would rather do workout videos, go to the gym, or work-out outdoors to which she said “I enjoy classes. I like group energy.” I will have to say if you are at all competitive group classes make me work a little harder because I know other people are watching me and I don’t like to be the weakest link so I agree with Mandy on the energy in group classes. In response to my question on what snacks she would recommend for us to eat to keep on the diet track Mandy suggested “I love nuts. Apples with salt and cinnamon. Steamed yam with olive oil. Love olives, Lara bars are pretty great.” I have to agree on the cinnamon apples I made those for Daniel and I a few months ago and baked them in the oven for “dessert” and it was just sweet enough to feel like a treat. As for the Lara bars, I am going to have to try those now! As for how much she recommends working out Mandy suggests “5 days” a week and when I asked what traps we often fall into that we should avoid she said “extremism. ‘cleansing’ then over-eating, over exercising and then stopping. Consistency will yield the greatest results.” Wow I cannot agree more with that statement, diet and exercise needs to be a life style change not a “diet” per se that we do and then stop. Mandy suggests to those of us that can’t cook to try a healthy cookbook and she really enjoys to “broil eggplant, zucchini, peppers, any veg…drizzle oil, salt. YUM!” This actually does sound yummy to me and although it is healthy it has flavor with the oil and salt- a must try! Last but not least the movie lover and Jennifer Aniston lover inside me had to wonder what her favorite Jennifer Aniston movie is “I actually really LOVE #Wanderlust. And The Good Girl.” I have not seen Wanderlust but The Good Girl is definitely the movie that set her apart from being Rachel Green, and it is actually a really dark but great movie. I agree with pretty much every piece of advice Mandy gave and she was so sweet to allow me to blog about her first ever live Twitter interview- and it was with me! I was honored and excited to do it. Thanks again Mandy!

I am a few weeks into InSanity and I love it! If you enjoyed P90x but want a shorter and more intense workout like me this is perfect for you too! The interval training keeps my heart rate high and it really has built up my strength and endurance already. Shaun T is a great motivator but not annoyingly in your face like some trainers may be. I love that first you always do a warmup and then stretch while your muscles are freshly warm. For the amount of different workout dvds you are getting plus a bonus workout dvd, calendar and food guide $120 is more than reasonable when you do the math. Another great thing about InSanity is that I go back and forth between Tennessee and Alabama and it is great to not have to lug around workout equipment. This program requires absolutely no equipment whatsoever so you can do it anywhere! I love a challenge and there is nothing worse than trying a new workout and being able to do it all the first time. With InSanity I have yet to do every rep Shaun T and the gang do on any dvd which is great because that means it is challenging to someone who already worked out 3-4x a week! I’ll keep you posted on my journey but so far A+! If you want to order it go to http://www.turbomichelle.com
